Fold in blueberries. Fill greased muffin tins half full and bake at 400° for 12 minutes, or until tops are slightly browned. Makes about 12 large muffins.
• 77ns is a basic muffin recipe that can be used to make a variety of muffins. For example, substitute the blueberries with raspberries or mixed berries, or a 3A cup raisins and 3A cup walnut pieces.
• Spread with butter, ghee or coconut oil for a delicious addition to breakfast or stand alone snack.
• These muffins freeze well, so be sure to make extra to freeze for later - if you can keep them around that long! |

ALCAT test) on an eight-year-old boy with a severe case of eczema and found that he tested positive for blueberries, apples, and broccoli. (Huh?) Once these seemingly innocuous (and healthy!) foods were removed from his diet, the eczema cleared up. His mother still can't believe it: Gone are the nights she spent with him, up at 3 a.m. because his back was unbearably itchy. Go figure.
With any luck you'll be one of the fortunate ones who solve the food allergy connection on the first try using an elimination diet (a variation of which is called the Rotation Diet—see page 210). |
| The red in raspberries and cherries, the blue in blueberries, and the orange in peppers all contain powerful plant chemicals that have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and frequently anticancer activity.
The secret to the benefits of cherries and cherry juice are compounds called anthocyanins. These are the particular pigments in cherries that give them their bright red color and are considered to be the key to helping the body relieve inflammation. It's believed that the anthocyanins in the cherries cause the decrease in uric acid and the relief from the pain of gout. |

Cranberries, blueberries, cherries, and blackberries are jam-packed with antioxidants called anthocyanins and polyphenols, which also have anti-inflammatory qualities. Leafy greens such as kale and spinach contain lutein, another superantioxidant. Cocoa carries flavonoids, particularly potent antioxidants that can zap free radicals and protect against inflammation. (The best way to consume cocoa is to add plain cocoa powder—preferably non-Dutched cocoa; Dutched cocoa is treated with an alkali during processing—into chili or other Southwestern recipes, thus avoiding the sugar in chocolate bars. |

The night before, place a small amount of frozen blueberries and raspberries in a small plastic container and keep it in the fridge to thaw out. To make the omelet, heat a small nonstick frying pan over medium heat, then add the olive oil and melt the butter. Beat the eggs and pour them into the pan. Allow the eggs to cook until they're set, probably a couple of minutes. When the eggs are firm enough, flip the omelet. Place the berries on one side of the omelet, fold over the other side, and serve. |

Some of the simple foods you can use to lower cholesterol are blueberries, garlic and soy products. blueberries alone help lower cholesterol as effectively as statin drugs. If you combine that with some soy products, such as tofu or soy milk, and consume healthy nuts like almonds and macadamias in addition to fiber, then you'll dramatically lower your cholesterol and you'll most likely be able to get off statin drugs. |

Cocoa has more phenolic phytochemicals and a higher antioxidant capacity possibly than any other food, including green tea, black tea, red wine, and blueberries. Flavonoids found in chocolate include the flavonols, notably epicatechin, catechin, and proantho-cyanidins. It is also a rich source of the antioxidant theobromine. Many dark chocolate products with a high percentage (seventy percent) of cocoa contain more of these type of antioxidants, but that is not always a guarantee. Processing of cocoa can cause substantial losses so look for cocoa products that boast of its flavonol content. |

Research has shown blueberries are even more effective at lowering LDL cholesterol levels than statin drugs. Again, this is something you don't hear very much from doctors, or certainly from the pharmaceutical industry, but it's been proven true -- blueberries are better than statin drugs. And now, with these upcoming aeroponic growing systems, consumers finally have a realistically simple way to grow their own berries.
The system I'm talking about isn't ready yet -- the manufacturer says it will take another six months, probably. But I'll keep you posted on this when it's finally available. |

You'll never see that claim because the blueberry companies aren't going to engage in the corruption, bribery, and political influence that would normally be required for the FDA to approve something. blueberries are just blueberries. They are straight from nature. They are healthy. And they actually lower bad cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health regardless of whether or not the FDA allows such a claim.

Refusing to believe that information, he did not fill the prescription and instead started altering his diet, removing animal products, cheese and fried foods, and boosting his consumption of blueberries and other nutrient-dense superfoods.
When he went back to his doctor a few months later, the doctor was astonished at how much positive change had been made -- and was surprised that he wasn't taking any medication at all. His total cholesterol had gone from 234 to 195, his LDL cholesterol had gone down, his HDL was up, and his total triglycerides had fallen substantially. |

Even the bag is really interesting. It's made with sacred geometry patterns and a color scheme that looks like a Tibetan Mandala. I noticed good vibes just from the bag itself, not to mention the fantastic food inside! And the bag is made from biodegradable and compostable cellulose films processed from sustainably harvested wood pulp. Can you eat the bag? I don't know. I was too busy eating the chocolate inside. |

Simply making the decision to eat more blueberries on a day-to-day basis can have phenomenal long-term impacts on your health, but if you don't know about the power of blueberries to lower LDL cholesterol, for example, or to help protect the eyes from macular degeneration, then you don't have the information to make that decision. So getting out information that shows the healing power of these foods is a very important part of this health-enhancing equation, and I am ecstatic to learn that two-thirds of our readers are taking these steps to boost their consumption of superfoods. |

Food sources rich in polyphenols include onion, apple, tea, red wine, red grapes, grape juice, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, and certain nuts. The average polyphenol / flavonoid intake in the U.S. has not been determined with precision, in large part, because there is presently no U.S. national food database for these compounds. (USDA scientists and their colleagues are in the process of developing a database for foods rich in polyphenols.) It has been estimated that in the Dutch diet a subset of flavonoids (flavonols and flavones) provide 23 mg per day. |

Pour into glass jars. It yields from 5 to 6 quarts of juice. If you don't get at least five quarts of juice, add more water.

The ingredients are organic freeze-dried berries and chia, along with rice protein, pea protein, enzymes, and probiotics. It's also got multivitamins, herbs, antioxidants, and minerals. Noni: Extremely potent anti-cancer, immune-boosting fruit (tastes terrible, though, if it's real)
Cherry: Anti-inflammatory. Reduces or ends arthritis pain. Anthocyanins are also anti-cancer. |

Some products made primarily with apple juice show no apples at all on the front label, instead depicting pomegranates and blueberries while claiming "100% Juice!" in big letters. "This misleads consumers into thinking these products are one hundred percent pomegranate juice," explained Adams, "When in fact, they may only be five or ten percent pomegranate juice."
Some pomegranate juice products were found to be made with high fructose corn syrup or sugar. These were blended with water, then color enhanced with purple carrot extract to make them appear like more substantial juice products. |
| While pictures on the front of the juice products show pomegranates and blueberries, the juice inside the bottle is often little more than apple and grape juice, said Mike Adams, nutrition author and producer of the free online consumer guide. Consumers can view the guide online at www.NewsTarget.com
The consumer shopping guide covers both pomegranate and blueberry juices, and it reviews nearly a dozen top brands to show which ones are telling the truth about their products vs. which ones are deceiving consumers with dishonest labeling. |
